Objective: Through this assignment, you will create an attractive and organized “Visual Merchandising Analysis” blog, which is shared with your class audience. Blogging enhances your professional profile. You are expected to create and maintain your own visual merchandising analysis blog as part of the course.

[To successfully complete the VM blog and get a good grade, your review of the grading rubrics and meeting the requirement for each area is important. Again, Please read and follow the grading rubrics]

Why Blogging: The blogs will help you develop a strategy to market yourself for your future career. Blogs also allow you to reference visual displays you see on the Internet and provide your own commentary (or critics), and engage in a dialog with other students to your blog about your analysis and reflection written. When you are demonstrating your knowledge, and writing for an authentic audience, you will be amazed at how much you step up your game and brand yourself through creating your own blogs. Be passionate to add more content! Recruiters want to see a digital footprint for these reasons:

  • It shows you’re savvy with the internet and social media.
  • They become familiar with your skills and personality before an interview.
  • They want your views on the developments and operations within the industry.

Sharing Blogs: For this course assignment, you will share your blog privately, with just Dr. Song and the peer students. After completing this course, you can share it with your future employers after enhancing the content with your portfolio and private information such as resume and cover letters. Using this blog assignment, build your brand identity in the fashion merchandising and design field for your future career!

How You Are Graded: You will be graded on the frequency of your posts that are submitted, the quality of your analysis and commentary on the blogs of fellow classmates. VM Analysis Blogs will be used to encourage active learning on the VM application of the course materials. A set of VM analysis post is worth a possible 4 points (2 points each good/bad) and required to be completed during the scheduled Hybrid Fridays Lab times.

Directions: During the assigned Active Learning Days Fridays (see the tentative lab schedule), you will post “Build Your Own Brand Identity Essay” and analyze two fashion retail display photos available online (both good and bad fashion retail displays) and post two of your critics/reflections regarding these photos.

  • “Build Your Own Brand Identity Essay” (minimum 3 paragraphs required): During the assigned Hybrid Fridays (see the tentative lab schedule), you will post an essay explaining (1) your strength (personal and professional), (2) academic background, (3) past career experience, (4) other achievement (not related to your high school period) and (5) your career goal. After the essay, (6) explain about the blog that you will analyze various fashion window display photos incorporating your knowledge learned from FCS 368/468 course. All siz (1) ~ (6) content should be included.
  • Fashion visual merchandising display critics and reflections: Find two fashion retail display photos available online (both good and bad fashion retail displays) and post two of your critics/reflections with each reference photo during the assigned Fridays. Please follow the below scheduled posts and due dates.
  • Field trips reflection posts: Post your photo and simply write about your field trips (2) and what you’ve learned from it.
